200 Indian Students Stuck in Houston : Hurricane Harvey

In what can be highly disturbing news, at least 200 Indian students are stuck in Houston as Hurricane Harvey wreaked a major havoc in Houston, United States. 200 Indian students are stuck in neck deep water at the University of Houston after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston badly. While many students are marooned due to the storm, a few are even hospitalized. Two students Shalini and Nikhil Bhatia are said to be in ICU. Their relatives of them are being rushed to Houston. Rescue and relief operations are underway to deliver food and other necessary items to the students.

Responding on the situation, External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday evening said that she had been informed about the situation by the Consulate General of India in Houston and assured that the efforts were being made to deliver food.

Meanwhile, the Indian community in the US is pulling out all stops in reaching out to the victims of the hurricane and help them. An Indian living in Houston, Kishore Ramaraju who belongs to Nalgonda in Telangana, shared that help was pouring in from every member of the Indian community living in Houston.

Ravi Shankar, who is the president of Indian graduate students organization at the University of Houston, said they have been trying to help as much as possible and were doing their best. Ravi Shankar said the university does have hotels which are ready to give food but without boats it was impossible to provide any kind of relief to them.

The Hyderabad restaurant in woodlands has taken initiative and come forward to provide free food to those affected by this storm.
