26 Hyd Parents Jailed For Letting Minors Drive

In the wake of a series of road accidents involving minors, the Hyderabad Traffic Police is taking strict measures. At least 26 parents of minors have been jailed in the past couple of months for letting their children drive their two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

In March, 20 parents of minors were arrested and produced before the court. Later, the court pronounced a jailterm as punishment. In April, 6 parents have been imprisoned on charges of abetting the crime. Even a minor was sent to prison for a month, after he was caught driving on the city roads.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police is promptly registering FIRs against the minor drivers and their parents and is even holding counseling sessions for both. Of late, there has been a drastic increase of road accidents, especially involving minors.

Earlier this week, 4 drunk second year engineering girl students drove their car onto a pavement, killing a cobbler named Ashok on the spot. Ashok was sleeping on the pavement along with his son Mahesh. The incident took place in Kushaiguda, Hyderabad. The girls were aged between 19-20 and they had allegedly produced fake documents to consume alcohol.
