No further beauty contests in colleges and other educational organizations in Tamil Nadu, the Madras high court has ordered. It is unknown as to how walking the ramp would help a student following a course in engineering; curio used Justice T S Sivagnanam on Tuesday, demanding the government to publish a notice prohibiting such events in colleges and universities.
The judge was passing interim orders on a request registered by Lakshmi Suresh, who told her daughter, an engineering student, took part in Ms Techofes contest held as part of the annual cultural event at Anna University’s College of Engineering in Guindy in February 2013.
The girl triumphed the beauty contest, but was given a fake certificate by the organizers of Techofes-2013. She was also not given the promised prize, the petition said. Asserting that her daughter’s nobility and decency had been spoiled, Lakshmi asked for the promised prize along with a recompense of Rs 5 lakhs.
