Champions League Twenty20 isn’t as successful as the cash-rich Indian Premier League. Already, Three Cricket Boards governing the multi-national CLT have signed an exit clause with the broadcaster of the Tournament. Now, These developments force BCCI to end this unsuccessful tourney.
In a meeting scheduled to take place on July 8th this year, IPL Governing Council will be discussing about an alternative to the Champions League Twenty20. The two options under consideration are…
i) Mini-IPL: Four Teams which finished top in the IPL points table will qualify to play. In this 7-match tourney, There will be 6 league matches and a final.
ii) Baby-IPL: All the Eight Teams of IPL will be participating. In this 15-match tourney, Eight Teams will be divided into Four Groups. There will be 13 league matches, 2 semi finals and a final.
IPL Governing Council will forward the proposal to BCCI Working Committee asking it to take a final call once it arrives to a conclusion that mini-IPL or baby-IPL are financially and logistically viable. In case if one among mini/baby-IPL materializes, BCCI has to settle few financial issues with Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd (Max & Six) which is the official broadcaster of IPL.
