After rejecting it twice, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has finally approved Flibanserin, the ‘female Viagra’ pill on Tuesday. Flibanserin is the world’s first ever libido enhancing pill for women produced by Sprout Pharmaceuticals and is marketed in the market by the name Addyi.

Addyi helps the females retain their sex drive by enhancing the levels of chemicals in the brain as against the male Viagra which affects the blood flow to the genitals. The pharmaceutical company tested the drug on several females and claimed that the pill had shown a growth in the number of satisfying sexual intercourses.

On the other hand, experts say that the results of these tests were moderate. Researchers found that the drug also has side effects like low BP, fainting, sleepiness, nausea and dizziness and breast cancer in rare case.

The pill is specially aimed at women who lost interest in sex and those who have not yet entered menopause.Addyi will be prescribed by the doctors only to those women who might need it and that too after they are informed of the side effects.
