Mecca, the abode of Muslim Gods is overpopulated with annual Haj pilgrims attending in Millions from many countries across the world. After a recent accident at the civil construction site in Mecca which killed 107 pilgrims when a massive crane fell on them, here is the latest report of at least 220 people have been killed in a stampede, Saudi Arabia’s civil defense directorate issued a statement.
This year, an estimate of 2 Million pilgrims will visit Mecca and the stampede took place at Street No 204 at a place in Mina, lying in between Mount Arafat and Mecca Grand Mosque. These streets are laid in between pilgrim camps to provide the walking space. Today is a special day at Mecca where stoning of the devil ritual is performed.
As of now 220 were reported dead and 450 seriously injured. Dead bodies are thrown like a lash on the street and Hajj authorities are clearing the way. In 2006, on the same day of stoning the devil, nearly 360 people were dead in a stampede. Coincidentally, the stampede occurred today on the same day.
