New Year is a day to celebrate for many merry makers. Enthusiastic revelers enjoy the day by celebrating it in various means such as partying and participating in cultural events, which are mostly drenched with western influence. This merriment has irked several religious preachers and sages.
Calling for a ‘no’ celebration new year, the Pushpagiri Peetadhipathi Vidya Shankara Bharati Swamiji requested everyone to boycott the 31st night celebrations and instead particiapte in charity events and conduct annadanam for the poor.
The Swamy said that it is bad omen to welcome the English new year on the 31st night by boozing and bursting crackers. The Swamy also called for cleaning of temples on the new year’s eve and spend the night by chanting religious and vedic hymns.
