A quake jolted northeast India in the wee hours on Monday. The epicenter of the high intensity quake was Manipur, says Ministry of Earth Sciences. Five have been reported dead due to the quake. Over 50 have been injured and are being treated.
The quake, which measured 6.7 on Richter scale, took place at 4.35am with depth of 17km below the ground. The epicenter was located at Tamenglong district, said the ministry.The earthquake was felt in parts of Assam , Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuously monitoring the situation. Meanwhile, NDRF teams have been deployed to affected areas for rescue missions.
