A day after the tragic suicide of Vemula Rohith, a 25-year-old suspended PhD scholar, situation at the prestigious Hyderabad Central University turned serious with RAF being deployed on campus. A case has been filed on senior BJP leader and union minister Bandaru Dattatreya in connection with Rohith’s suicide.

A large group of students and friends of the departed Dalit student filed a complaint with the Gachibowli police alleging that it was Bandaru Dattatreya’s letter to the HRD Ministry seeking action against Rohith that depressed the young student and instigated him to end his life. The senior politician and the university’s VC have been booked as accused number 1 and 2 under theĀ  section 306 of the IPC and the SC/ST Act.

Meanwhile, the students and HCU Professors’ association alleged that the university administration had acted in a hasty manner and suspended him without forming any inquiry panel. Rohith has been suspended since last year for allegedly attacking an ABVP student leader in the university campus.
