Following the heavy violence that took place during the polling and complaints made by Congress against MIM of rigging on the 2nd February, the election commission ordered for re-polling for the Puranapul division in the Old City on the 5th Friday.
Yesterday, the polling stated at 7 am and concluded by 3 am. Following the violence and the police cases, the Puranapul result became a matter of prestige for both MIM and Congress parties. The counting for this discussion went on till late night and it was a nail biting finish, with MIM clinching the division in the end.
Incidentally, MIM’s Hindu candidate Sunnam Rajmohan won the intense contest over the Congress party’s Muslim candidate Mohammed Ghouse with a majority of 1,500 votes, proving the neck to next fight.
Expressing his happiness over the end result, MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted, Subhanallah MIM won PURANAPUL thank you voters of PURANAPUL Hindu candidate of MIM won over Congress Muslim candidate VICTORY Secularism in the polling.”
