With Congress deciding to put a stop to the Telangana issue that is shaking their base in AP, party big-wigs started doing damage control even before they discuss about Telangana in CWC meeting. Reports have that Congress is actually ready to take a decision favouring Telangana, but it is actually thinking of plans to make the bill pass in Parliament. If the ruling UPA at Centre fails to get the bill passed, then it will be a big insult for party before general elections.
Party leaders from Delhi started consulting MPs and MLAs from Andhra region regarding this, and feelers are there that every Samaikyandra protester within the party will be cooled even before CWC meet. Already PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayna stressed that he will abide by the decision of high-command, though he favours United AP. What does that mean? Also, the silence of hardcore Samaikya supporters like Kavuri, Purandareswari, Lagadapati and even celebrated union minister Chiranjeevi are avoiding media regarding this issue, but are sending signals that they will stand by high-command’s decision. Even ministers like Ghanta Srinivasa Rao who advocate united Andhra, lessened the strength in his voice.
Recently AP speaker Nadendla Manohar has met AICC in-charge of state Digvijay Singh in Delhi. Maybe he is invited by Diggy to get a clear picture of what happens in AP Assembly if a decision favouring separate Telangana is taken. Reports say that AP speaker indicated about possible resignations from Andhra MLAs in that case. However, our MLAs may not dare to resign or quit party with general elections ahead in no time. But there are chances of Jagan supporters in Congress to quit party and change flag. This will be one of the main concerns for Congress and they are still to come to a plan to handle these migrations.
If Congress high command comes to a clear picture about the possible solutions and precautions they should take before sanctioning Telangana, they will iterate the process no sooner. Maybe, Congress MP Undavalli Arun Kumar has smelled these secret plans of high-command and that is why started provoking Andhra protesters by blasting TRS, say analysts. So we have to see how Congress will smoothly lock all doors before revealing their final decision and how rebels cope with it.
