Can HIV Drugs Cure COVID-19?


Following the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus which was later dubbed rnas COVID-19 by the WHO the Indian government is not leaving any stones rnunturned to find a way to fight the virus.
As per the new rndevelopment, India has used the lopinavir/ Ritonavir combination, the rnsecond line Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) medication in order to rntreat an Italian couple who were tested positive for the virus.
Thern official records state that the Italian couple who visited India for a rntour were found positive for the coronavirus infection in Jaipur last rnmonth.
“Yes, ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) has takenrn approval for use of second line HIV drugs on COVID patients, but this rnLopinavir/ Ritonavir combination therapy has been approved for emergencyrn use among COVID-19 patients with moderate degree of severity, with laidrn down protocols. Till now, this combination therapy has been given to rntwo Italian patients hospitalised in Jaipur,” Health Minister Dr. Harsh rnVardhan said
As per the Health officials, it will be too early torn say anything on the medication. Reportedly they have said the drug rnwhich is believed to have some side-effects was used in China earlier torn treat the corona positive patients.
