High Court orders AP government to cooperate with SEC

The Andhra Pradesh government and the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission do not agree on anything, and this has been proven time and again. State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has filed a petition in the High Court, requesting the AP government to cooperate with the SEC.

The SEC had previously announced that the local body elections would be taking place in November, but the AP government expressed objections to it. The Ap government said that this is not the right time to conduct local body elections because of the situation of coronavirus in the state, which has not become any better.

Now, with the petition being investigated in the High Court, the AP government has said that it has already released 39 Lakhs of the 40 Lakh funds required to organise the elections. The government has also said that there is no necessity of the High Court ordering the government to cooperate with the SEC with respect to the elections.

The government also said that the SEC should consult with the government regarding every decision the SEC takes for the elections. On the other hand, the High Court said that there is no necessity for the government to be consulted with everything, and questioned the need to do so.

The HC has also asked the SEC to submit an affidavit with the details of all the areas in which the government is not cooperating with the SEC. The next hearing has been postponed to tomorrow.
