Which party Chiranjeevi is in? While he has not yet resigned from the Congress Party that made him a union minister, he is inactive and has not been attending any party meet either in Andhra or in Telangana. There is so much confusion that Congress High Command’s observer for Andhra Pradesh Oomen Chandy had openly said that Chiru is not part of the Congress Party anymore.
Though APCC chief Shailajanath tried to make amends and had said that Chiru was very much a member of the party, Chandy’s comments went viral. But, interestingly, Chiranjeevi did not respond to either comment. He kept largely to himself on the issue and did not make any remark.
However, there are reports that Rahul Gandhi held discussions with Oomen Chandy about the party’s position in Andhra Pradesh. The party has lost its sheen after the state was divided. The people of Andhra Pradesh have held the Congress Party responsible for the division and punished it mercilessly. The party, which ruled AP for decades, has no MLA now since 2014. During the discussion on how to revive the party in AP, both the leaders reportedly felt that reactivating Chiru was the only way to revive the party in AP.
Rahul Gandhi reportedly felt that Chiru still had the mass appeal and the vote-getting ability. Only he can revive the party in AP, Rahul reportedly told Oomen Chandy. He reportedly asked Chandy to contact Chiru once again and hold discussions on the issue. One does not know what would be Chiranjeevi ‘s reaction to the proposal. As of now, Chiru is focusing more on films and social service.
