TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has announced that he would soon launch a yatra to cover the state end-to-end. He made this announcement during a party workers meet held at Hyderabad to commemorate his massive Vastunna Mee Kosam Yatra of 2013. Speaking on the occasion, he asked the party workers to be prepared for another major yatra.
If sources are to be believed, the yatra would be launched from Hindupur like the Vastunna Mee Kosam Yatra. But, it is not clear whether it would be a pada yatra or a bus yatra. Sources say that given Chandrababu Naidu’s age, the yatra would be conducted in a bus. But the preparations have reportedly begun for the yatra in the right earnest.
But the biggest question among many TDP leaders, especially the seniors, is whether the yatra would be able to become a success and create an impact. Many feel that the political conditions of 2013 were vastly different from what they are today. They feel that there are no special reasons for the yatra. Also, there is no serious anti-incumbency against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. In fact, surveys suggest that there is a groundswell of support for Jagan especially due to the slew of welfare schemes being implemented by his government.
Chandrababu can definitely raise the issue of mounting debt burden of the state. But , can he tell the people that spending on welfare schemes was the reason for this dire situation? He could raise the issue of Amaravati and Polavaram. But, he has no defence for the delay in the project works during his rule. Most importantly, several TDP biggies feel that raising funds for the yatra would be a huge task and wonder whether it would be worth the effort.
