The YSRCP government came to power largely due to the various cash schemes that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy introduced, especially the Navaratnalu scheme. This scheme required spending public money in large amounts, which eventually led to the financial crisis of the AP government. The AP government failed to introduce any scheme that could create revenue for it in the last three years, and the spending of public money made matters worse for them.
As a result, the AP government is now asking the people to pay back in some form or another, to pool up money. First, it was the OTS (one-time settlement scheme), which asked the beneficiaries of the government housing schemes, to pay Rs. 10,000 to regularise their houses. Then, it was the property tax, which was sharply increased in all municipalities and municipal corporations.
Now, the government is asking the poor to pay a regularisation fee to regularise their plots sanctioned by the government. The YSRCP government promised to these people that they would regularise these plots for the poor, up to 100 sq, yards, just for Rs. 1, and with the government asking these people to pay thousands and lakhs of rupees for regularisation is shocking everyone. At first, the government spent recklessly, and now, it is demanding from sources that can’t pay back a penny. It is now to be seen what repercussions this will lead to.
