When the temple city Vijayawada was made a district and was named after Telugu Desam Party founder Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, the ruling party YSRCP said, it is the respect the party has towards the legendary actor NTR and that’s why the government honored him by naming the district after him. It was one of the election promises made by Jagan.
But the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government surprised everyone by making a bill that says the name of the NTR Health University should be named after Jagan’s father YSR. The bill is tabled in the Assembly house today, which aims at naming the University after the former Chief Minister YSR.
The way the bill was made and it was sent to the cabinet online raised many questions. One cannot understand what made the Andhra Pradesh government draft the bill all of a sudden as if there were no important issues in the state and everything is fine in the state.
Required amendments were made to the bill so that the name of the University can be changed. With the Assembly house saying yes to the proposal, the name of NTR Health University will be changed to YSR Health University.
We have to wait and see how the likes of Tourism Minister Roja and former Minister Kodali Nani who dub themselves true fans of late NTR will defend the decision now. They always say they shifted loyalties to YSRCP from TDP as they could not stay in the party which is run by Chandrababu Naidu who backstabbed NTR.
It will be interesting to know how the YSRCP which spoke highly about naming NTR university and said they did what TDP could not do when it was in power.
Moreover, NTR University has nothing to do with late YSR. The University was planned by late NTR and it was built and started in the regime of the grand old Telugu Desam Party. As Chandrababu Naidu was the Chief Minister when the University was started, he named it after NTR given the fact that the TDP founder was behind the planning and concept of the Health University.
