Ahead of the general elections in Andhra Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party is taking some unexpected decisions. Earlier today, it was reported that Somu Veerraju was removed as AP BJP chief. The same was informed to Somu Veerraju by none other than BJP National President JP Nadda over the phone.
As if the shock was not enough, the Central leadership announced Somu Veerraju’s replacement. Reports say that Chinnamma Daggubati Purandeswari was appointed as the new AP Chief. Purandeswari was earlier with the Congress party and she served as the Union Cabinet Minister. She has a stature as a politician.
Daggubati Purandeswari is the daughter of legendary NTR and this is a trump card. The BJP in AP is yet to have a foot in the state and she can achieve this. Coming from the NTR family and having a better understanding of the issues in the state is her advantage.
She is a good orator and can make good speeches. Her experience as a politician and the trump card of the NTR family might have made the BJP pick her. Though a few names popped up as candidates, the party leadership went with Daggubati Purandeswari.
Political observers say that picking Daggubati Purandeswari might be strategic as the party can turn the image of NTR into votes. Only TDP has been using the image of NTR as the party was floated by him. But things might change from now on. She was successful in setting up a statute of NTR in Parliament. Despite being a Congress leader back then, she achieved this.
