Ali’s sudden visit to Tadepalli sets off Rajya Sabha seat speculations

Starting from late on Wednesday night, the rumour mill has got abuzz with the reports that ace comedian Ali aka Mohammad Ali Basha will be made a Rajya Sabha MP. The buzz is that Ali would be given one of the four seats that would fall vacant soon. If given a ticket, becoming a MP is a certainty as the YSRCP has unassailable numbers in the state assembly.

Ali landed late on Wednesday night in Tadepalli and is said to have met Minister Perni Nani. The YSRCP sources say that he was asked to reach Vijayawada immediately. This set off speculations that he would be made a Rajya Sabha MP. In fact, ever since he helped the YSRCP by campaigning for it in the 2019 elections, Ali has been meeting the YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy with a request for some suitable post.

Sources say that he wanted an MLA seat in the 2019 assembly elections from either Guntur or Rajahumundry. However, that did not happen. Later, there was a buzz that he would be made an MLC. But even that did not happen. Then YSRCP sources said that he would be given the party MP ticket to contest from Rajahmundry in 2024 elections. There, was however, no confirmation about this.

Meanwhile, ever since Ali got an invite from the party on Wednesday night, there are speculations that he would be made a Rajya Sabha member. His presence in Tadepalli gave rise to these speculations. Interestingly, a slew of top film personalities of Tollywood too were in Tadepalli, but to discuss the film ticket pricing issue
