Is BJP Telangana president Bandi Sanjay taking a leaf out of AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s political copybook? It appears so. Remember YS Jagan camped for more than two weeks in Nandyal and launched a campaign blitzkrieg in the byelections a year ahead of the 2019 assembly elections? Bandi Sanjay is going to do exactly that in Munugode.
Starting from October 18, he would camp in Munugode and conduct a house-to-house campaign. He will tour the length and breadth of the constituency and meet the voters personally. He would hold roadshows in several villages. This will be no less a campaign blitzkrieg. Bandi Sanjay, who was till recently busy with his visit to Delhi has now decided to work full-time for the BJP candidate in Munugode.
Already BJP stalwarts like Union Minister Kishan Reddy, Rajya Sabha MP Dr K Laxman, MLA of Dubbak M Raghunandan Rao and former MLA Babu Mohan are actively campaigning in Munugode. The BJP has fielded Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy as its candidate. Reddy resigned from the Congress and joined the BJP. He is seeking approval of the voters for his decision to change political affiliation.
For a word of caution. YS Jagan had camped in Nandyal for the byelections held in a similar situation. MLA Chakrapani Reddy had resigned from the TDP and sought re-election. To ensure his victory Jagan camped for over two weeks like Bandi Sanjay is doing now. But, despite Jagan’s best efforts, the TDP managed to win by a huge margin. Will the same story be repeated in Munugode too? Let’s wait and see.
