In a big development, the Andhra Pradesh government has taken a u-turn in three capitals issue. The Advocate General informed the AP High Court that the state government has withdrawn the three capitals proposal.
The AP Cabinet meeting was held urgently on Monday morning. During the meeting, it was decided to scrap the three capital laws.
TDP leaders along with Amaravati farmers and several organizations have also filed petitions in the AP High Court on three capitals. The High Court conducts daily hearings on these petitions. The Advocate General told the HC that the law had been withdrawn at this juncture. He told the court that AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would make a statement in the Assembly on the matter.
The Andhra Pradesh Assembly approved the bills on January 20, 2020. CM YS Jagan announced in the assembly that the Legislative Capital would be set up in Amaravati, the Judicial Capital in Kurnool, and the Executive Capital in Visakhapatnam.
