Envisioning the Make in India and the Made in Andhra Pradesh programs into a reality, the AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu will be launching the country’s first Xiaomi manufactured phone in Vizag on Monday. Xiaomi stepping in Andhra Pradesh is a result of Chandrababu’s China tour earlier this year.

Xiaomi is a leading low cost smartphone manufacturer and also the world’s third largest smartphone maker, following Samsung and Apple. Apart from the smartphone launch on Monday, Xiaomi will also announce its expansion plans in India. Currently, Xiaomi is under rebranding itself as MI.

‘Given that global smartphone sales are estimated to grow from 1.5 billion in 2015 to 1.7 billion by 2017 and India will become the second largest smartphone market by 2017 after China, Xiaomi is looking to expand its presence and increase its market share in the country,’ said an official in the Xiamoi delegation.

The association between the Chinese electronic giant and the AP government is set to script a new history in the state’s efforts in self sustainability, with the CM himself stating ‘Good news coming our way.’
