On the 4th of April, Venkanna, a smalltime stringer from Arvapalli Mandal in Nalgona District had seen it all. From facing death from a distance of feet away to being appreciated by his neighbors, colleagues and police officials, the day would be remembered throughout Venkanna’s life. Little did he know that what started off as a normal day had in store for him.
Venkanna works as a freelance contributor to a Telugu news daily and primarily writes about the fields of agriculture and village developmental issues. On Saturday 4th of April, the police informed Arvapalli journalists about the SIMI terrorists entering the area with weapons. These were the terrorists who attacked a police team on 2nd April.
Soon after he got the info, Venkanna immediately rushed to the spot and saw a man holding a gun and a pistol in both his hands. Venkanna quickly clicked few photographs of the man and his acquaintance, who just stole a bike at gunpoint. However, the terrorist noticed Venkanna and aimed his gun at him, threatening to shoot. Just then, a bus crossed, obstructing the terrorist and even a police jeep started approaching with a siren. This made both the terrorists flee and Venkanna saved himself from being shot.
Venkanna immediately handed over the photographs to the cops and this lead helped them in spotting the terrorists within 2 hours and shot them down in a nearby village. The Telangana Union of Working Journalists awarded him with a cash prize of 15000 and even the police authorities praised his brave act. – See more at: http://www.gulte.com/news/37605/Venkanna-A-Journalist-Who-Turns-To-Real-Hero#sthash.EFENzuKu.dpuf
