Previously, not many Tamil films used to perform exceptionally at the Telugu box office. Barring Rajni and Kamal’s films in the 90s, other Tamil flicks did not get good reception. But everything changed after the 2000s. The quality of Telugu films dipped during that period and Tamil dubbed movies like ‘Chandramuki’, ‘Ghajini’, ‘Aparichitudu’, ‘Sivaji’, ‘Rangam’, ‘Robo’ and many others have gained huge collections in Tollywood. Directors like Shankar, KV Anand and Murugadoss came up with interesting movies which captured the interest of the Telugu audience.
The dubbed films became so popular that Telugu movies started getting affected by them. But the situation has changed over the last decade as Telugu films are arriving with a lot of quality and grandeur. At the same time, the Tamil films have failed to impress the Telugu audience which made the market fall down drastically. But they are slowly gaining momentum once again. In the last year or so, movies like ‘Vikram’, ‘Varasudu’, ‘Viduthalai’, ‘Bichagadu 2’ and others did wonderfully. Even a few Kannada films have done exceptionally well.
Rajnikanth’s ‘Jailer’ which was released recently has had a gross of over 50 crores already. The demand for Tamil dubbed films has increased lately and it has become quite evident. This proved to be a big plus point for the upcoming releases. Vijay’s ‘Leo’ is arriving during the Dasara season. Vijay’s market is increasing steadily over the past few years. With Lokesh Kanagaraj being the director, the craze multiplied on the movie. Also, stars like Arjun Sarja, Sanjay Dutt, Trisha and others are also a part of this movie.
If this film gets positive talk, it may end up as the biggest hit during the Dasara season. Another movie ‘Kanguva’ is arriving soon and we all know the huge stardom Suriya has in Telugu. The teaser raised the expectations on the movie heavily and it is going to be released in a grand manner. The trade pundits predict that ‘Kanguva’ and ‘Leo’ are going to get huge openings in the Telugu market this year.
