Fodder Scam Verdict: Lalu Convicted

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav was on Saturday pronounced guilty in the long-pending fodder scam case. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on 3rd January, 2018.

Of the 22 accused, the Special CBI Court in Ranchi found 15 guilty, Lalu was one among them, and acquitted the remaining seven. Former Bihar CM Jagannath Mishra was one among the acquitted seven. All the fifteen convicts, including Lalu, were taken into custody immediately after the pronouncement of the verdict. They were all found guilty for the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 84.5 lakh from the treasury between 1994 and 1996.

Lalu faced five cases in the fodder scam, of which now three are pending. In October 2013, he had been sentenced to five years in jail for the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.5 Cr from the treasury, but he was granted bail by the Supreme Court in December 2013.
