In a surprise move, the Andhra Pradesh government, headed by CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Tuesday removed D Gautam Sawang (1986-batch IPS officer) as the Director-General of Police (DGP) and replaced him with 1992-batch officer KV Rajendranath Reddy.
The orders, issued by the State Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma, regarding the same directed Sawang to report to the General Administration Department for further posting.
Mr. Sawang, who took charge in June 2018, served as Director-General of Police of the state for two years and nine months. He is due to retire from service on July 31, 2023.
KVRN Reddy is presently holding the post of DG (Intelligence). He will be in full additional charge of the post of DGP until further orders. He had earlier served as the Commissioner of Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam City Police and was posted as the DG (intelligence) in August 2020.
