Guntur Woman’s Complaint on Dairy Milk

Who wouldn’t like to consume chocolates? But, here’s a story which may lessen our penchant for chocolates!

Going into news, a Guntur based woman Darla Anupama lodged a complaint with Consumer Forum on Mondelez India Foods Private Limited, the parent company of Cadbury India, after finding bugs in a couple of daily milk chocolates (roast almond) that she purchased from a local shop in July-2017. In the complaint filed with Consumer Forum, Anupama said that she had immediately spit it out after finding it bitter while eating.

Reacting to her complaint, the Forum has ordered the Food company to pay a penalty of Rs 50,000 for ‘deficiency in service’, Rs 5000 for the costs of petitioner and Rs 90 for the price of two Dairy Milks.

The woman, in her petition, sought a fine of Rs 5 lakh from chocolate manufacturer and retailer. While the retailer got away by claiming that he has got nothing to do with the defects in the chocolate as he’d only distribute the packed confectioners.

The company, through its legal advocate, initially argued that complaint cannot be maintained as the samples of chocolates are not been deposited. But, the forum left them in no choice.
