Hyderabad records heavy rainfall in 111 years

Tuesday was a nightmare for commuters in Hyderabad. The heavy pour down resulted in massive traffic jam all over the twin cities while at few places, the water went inside the residences, police station, restaurants, hospitals and even supermarkets. This is a record for September month in 111 years.

It all started post lunch hour, the rain did its job in installments and area wise. Till midnight, the rain kept flowing from the sky. Tirumalgiri and Uppal regions have recorded the highest rainfall with 12.1 and 12 centirmetres respectively. At Gachibowli near Care Hospital, the water level went up till the hip and for two hours, all the vehicles were stuck on the roads. In Osmania university, the water coasted in the girls hostel phase 2 while the roads at Dilsukhnagar turned like a river with flood.

Upon municipal minister KTR’s order, GHMC deployed monsoon disaster teams while GHMC Mayor Rammohan monitored the works from the police command control. The traffic police and GHMC officials were under rescue operations all the night and did tried their best to clear the water logs.

Not just in Hyderabad, the rainfall was all over Telangana. Badradi Kothagudem, Mancherial districts reported 2 cms of rainfall while Siddipet recorded 1.7 cms of rain.
