Ilaiah Taunts TV9 Journalist as ‘Lawyer of Vysyas’

Dalit writer Kancha Ilaiah, who had created a sensation in the Telugu states with his latest book, ‘Samajika Smugglurlu Komatollu’ (Vysyas are social smugglers), allegedly angered the media world by making some stern comments on noted TV9 journalist, Murali Krishna.

Ilaiah has recently participated in TV9’s ‘Encounter with Murali Krishna’, a talk show hosted by Murali Krishna. During the interview, Ilaiah alleged that Vysya community people were trying to kill him and that no TV channel showed the attacks on him to people. In reply, Murali Krishna reminded him that channels had given prime coverage to the alleged attack on him in Parakala and said that his book had become controversial over the objectionable content in it.

Responding to this, Ilaiah said, ‘Mr.Murali…you are not my Judge nor my Lawyer. ‘You are a Lawyer of Arya Vysya community’. He said that the questions he was being asked make him wonder if was an accused in court. He even questioned the journalist if he had taken money from the Arya Vysya community people to interrogate him in the name of interview.

Calling a respected journalist as the advocate of a particular community and that he had taken money from them hasn’t gone well with media persons.

During the interview, Ilaiah further said that people should approach police and court if they had found his book objectionable and not physically attack him. He argued that he has the constitutional right to pen the book he wanted.
