India had ended its journey at the Tokyo Paralympics on a high note by recording the best performance at the prestigious tournament by winning the highest numbers of medals so far in a single edition. Indian athletes have won 19 medals, the highest for any edition. Before leaving for the tournament, the athletes said that they will come back to India with 5 Gold and fifteen medals in total. When they made the announcement, there was a belief that the athletes are too confident in their skills.
Proving the opinion of overconfidence as wrong, Indian athletes have won five gold and more medals than expected. While they said they will win 15 medals, 19 medals were recorded at the Tokyo Paralympics. The other medals are 8 silver and 6 bronze.
Indian Paralympian and rifle shooter Avani Lekhara had led the country in the Gold by bagging the first gold for India. Neeraj Chopra, Badminton players Pramod Bhagat, Manish Narwal, and Krishna Nagar bagged Gold taking India’s tally of Gold to five.
IAS Officer Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, who had entered the history books by becoming the first-ever IAS in India with his Silver in the Men’s single badminton had missed out on Gold by losing to his opponent.
Overall, the Indian athletes have made everyone proud of their performance. After having the best tournament in the Tokyo Olympics, the athletes have taken the same spree in the Paralympic tournament too.
