In a record achievement, Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited, has been adjudged the country’s richest person for the 9th consecutive year. The Forbes India has reported the list of country’s top billed billionaires and Mukesh Ambani topped the chart with a net worth of $18.9 billion (Rs.127,700 crore). However, there has been a steep decline of $4.7 billion in the oil and petroleum magnet’s net worth from 2014.
With $18 billion net worth, Dilip Shanghvi, the leader of Sun Pharmaceuticals, stood in the second spot and his assets took a steep rise with the acquisition of the Indian drug giant Ranbaxy Industries for $4 billion. With $15.9 billion net worth, leading IT czar of Wipro, Azim Premji, occupied the third spot, but witnessed a decrease of $500 million of his net worth compared to that of 2014.
The remaining top 10 billionaires in the country are the Hinduja brothers (4) with $14.8 billion, Pallonji Mistry (5) with $14.7 billion, Shiv Nadar (6) with $12.9 billion, Godrej family (7) with $11.4 billion, Cyrus Poonawalla (9) with $7.9 billion and Kumar Mangalam Birla (10) with $7.8 billion net worth respectively.
This year’s surprise entry is the latest billionaires in the country, the Flipkart co-founders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal with $1.3 billion each (approximately Rs. 8,582 crores). The total wealth of India’s top 100 richest remains almost unchanged at $345 billion, to that of $346 billion in 2014.
