Highly placed sources say that the Telangana government is mulling another extension of lockdown. The lockdown could be extended till June 7. The lockdown imposed on May 12, comes with four-hour relaxation i the morning. The same system is likely to continue in the third phase of the lockdown too.
Sources said that the health department of Telangana government has prepared a report on the covid situation in the state and is said to have recommended the extension of the lockdown by another week to contain the spread of the contagion. KCR, who will hold a cabinet meet on May 28, will take a final decision on the issue of extending the lockdown. The government is of the opinion that the lockdown has helped in significantly reducing the number of Covid positive cases. To firm up the success, another extension of the lockdown is needed, the government feels.
Initially, the government experimented with night curfew and some other restrictions. But, later, it was felt that a lockdown was necessary. Later, the courts too have asked the government to consider imposing a lockdown, following which the government took a decision to impose lockdown. Of late, KCR has asked the police to deal with the violators very strongly. He wanted them to implement the lockdown more strictly.
