The Andhra Pradesh Capital issue has been going on for the longest time, with the government of the state hell bent on assigning 3 Capitals to the state. The TDP and other party members have also expressed their opposition to this idea, and have been constantly striving for a single capital for the state of Andhra Pradesh.
The 3 Capital Bill and the CRDA Repeal bill have been sent to the governor of Andhra Pradesh, Biswabhushan Harichandan, recently, so that he can take the final call on what’s to be done with regards to them. According to the latest reports, the governor has sought legal advice, and is on his way to sending these bills to the Central Government, with his final decision.
At the same time, rumor mills are rife with many sources saying that the Central Government is about to get involved in the 3 Capital issue, and that it is about to make some major changes to the bill proposed by the state government, keeping the current situation in mind.
On the other hand, back in Andhra Pradesh, the BJP seems to be divided on its opinion internally. While some members are supporting the AP government’s decision of 3 Capitals, some others are opposing it. Few BJP leaders also took part in the many protests organised by the farmers of Amaravati, in an attempt to reinstate Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh.
It is still unclear whether the Central Government will be meddling in this issue, since a senior member like B.V.L. Narasimha Rao has said that the state government has the sole right to make a decision when it comes to the state, and that the Center does not have much power. It is now to be seen what will happen in the days to come.
