South Indian star hero Suriya made a wonderful comeback last year with an inspiring film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ (‘Aakasam Nee Haddu Ra’ in Telugu). The film is based on the life story of GR Gopinath who founded Air Deccan. Directed brilliantly by Sudha Kongara, ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is one of the, if not the best movie of 2020. Suriya delivered a national award-worthy performance in this film which was directly released on Amazon Prime Video. It was produced under Suriya’s ‘2D Entertainments’ banner and everyone who watched it was highly impressed by the compelling storytelling and moving performances.
There was a lot of talk about its possible remake in Hindi for a long time and it has now turned into a reality. The official announcement of the Hindi remake has been made Vikram Malhotra will be bankrolling this project in Hindi in association with Suriya’s ‘2D Entertainments’ banner. The Hindi remake will be handled by Sudha Kongara herself.
In the officially released statement, Suriya claimed, ‘The love and appreciation that was showered on Soorarai Pottru was unprecedented. From the minute I heard this story I felt this has to be a pan India film because the soul of it was such. It gives me immense pleasure to partner with Abundantia Entertainment, who have always made quality content, to tell the inspiring story of Captain Gopinath in Hindi.’
There is still no clarity on who will be playing Suriya’s role in the Hindi remake and more details regarding the cast and technicians who will be a part of this Hindi remake of ‘Soorarai Pottru’ will be announced in the coming days. Talking about this project, the director Sudha Kongara revealed, ‘I was instantly drawn to the story of Soorarai Pottru, the story of Captain Gopinath, an adventurous maverick and an inspiring entrepreneur who epitomised the New India of the 90s. I’m grateful for all the love we have received so far and look forward to telling this unique and amazing story in Hindi. I hope this official Hindi remake also gets the same love as the original.’
GV Prakash lifted the film with his music while Aparna Balamurali performed superbly as Suriya’s onscreen wife who supports him every step of his way. Mohan Babu, Paresh Rawal, Kali Venkat, Karunas and others played crucial roles. Let us see if Sudha Kongara manages to repeat her own magic in Hindi or not.
