YS Jagan, who was speaking to a national TV channel, stated that he would ally with BJP if it grants Special Category Status to AP. With BJP already announced publicly that Special Category Status is a gone case and it can’t accord SGS to AP.
Jagan’s inclination towards BJP is not new. But this has been worrying his party leaders, MLAs in the grass root level. YSRCP’s belt is traditional Congress votes (SC, STs and minorities) who switched their loyalties from Congress to YSRCP. This is a strong vote bank to Jagan and it is against to BJP. Jagan’s repeated statements of his liking for BJP is expected to hurt that vote bank as well, worry many YSRCP leaders.
First of all, it is not sure whether BJP itself ready to ally with Jagan. Though Modi-Shah want to go with Jagan, they need RSS’s go ahead which is highly difficult as RSS is against to Jagan. Amidst these consequences, Jagan wooing BJP is said to be damaging his own vote bank.
Meanwhile, it needs to be seen how BJP and TDP leaders would respond to Jagan’s fresh comments.
