After the humongous success of ‘PS – 1’, the team of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ finished the second part at a rapid pace and they are arriving in theatres worldwide on 28th April 2023. As we know, the first part was a massive hit in Tamil Nadu and it earned more than 400 crores at the box office. Interestingly, the movie was not a big success in other parts of the country and they found it tough to relate to the film which was filled with Tamil nativity and culture.
The team is now busily promoting ‘PS – 2’ all across the nation. Karthi, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Sobhita Dhulipala and others are involved in the promotions and they recently had an interaction with the media. As we know, the film did not have a good run in the North compared to other South films like ‘Kantara’, ‘KGF’ and ‘RRR’. Explaining this, Karthi said, “I think they (the audience in the North) found it a bit difficult to understand. That’s what I felt initially. When you are reading a novel, you will forget the names by the time you get to the tenth page. Similarly, here too they had that problem. However, when the film was released on OTT, they were able to get it. So, they will be able to better understand the film when the second part comes. However, the film was praised for its aesthetics.”
He added, “In Kerala and Karnataka the film was well-received. In the South, due to the relatability factor, the film worked well. However, after the OTT release, even many from North are awaiting the release of the second part.”
Academy award winner AR Rahman composed the music for this movie. Produced under Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies banners, the cast of the film includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R Parthiban. Ravi Varman is the director of photography while Sreekar Prasad is the editor. The action was composed by Kecha Khamphakdee, Sham Kaushal & Dhilip Subbarayan. Mani Ratnam is the director of this epic film.
