The GHMC polls were to take place in the first week of November in Telangana, as per the original schedule issued by the SEC. However, it now looks very much unlikely for the elections to be conducted as per the original plan.
The main reason for this are the heavy rains that have caused great devastation in Hyderabad, destroying the livelihood of many people, and causing a lot of property loss. Another reason is that Chief Minister KCR is apparently not sure about the outcome of these elections, if they are conducted right now.
The TRS has faced a lot of criticism this year, first with the way it had handled Coronavirus, and now, with the way it reacted to the rains. Initially, the government is reported to have thought the rains as normal, and not paid any attention to it. By the time it released the intensity, things already got out of hand.
While CM KCR is restricted to either his house or farmhouse, minister KTR is touring Hyderabad, and interacting with all those families who have been terribly hit by the rains. Currently, there’s a lot of frustration that has been built against TRS, for its lack of action at the proper time. At least, that’s what the general consensus among the public is.
KCR is said to believe that this may not be the right time to conduct the GHMC elections for this reason, and is said to be considering postponing the elections to the last week of November, or first week of December.
