Tension gripped the shore city Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh after a massive fire mishap was reported at the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd(HPCL) on Tuesday. The reason behind the mishap is still unknown.
A heavy smoke followed by a blast-like sound was reported at the plant. With the smoke coming out of the plant, the locals informed the cops of the situation. The firefighters were also deployed.
The Unit-3 plant in HPCL reported the blast around 3 PM today. Following this, the authorities at the plant used a serin to guide the workers and employees inside the plant to run out of the plant.
As per the media reports, Eastern Naval Command personnel, firefighters, and the State Disaster Response personnel reached the spot about receiving the information. The situation was brought under control after the fire was doused. No casualties and injuries were reported, thankfully, media reports claimed.
“A fire incident occurred in one of the crude processing units of HPCL’s Visakh Refinery today. Safety measures & firefighting was activated immediately. The fire has been extinguished. There is no casualty and no risk to the public. Other Refinery operations are normal,” HPCL said in a statement.
