The Union government had passed the bill that aims at increasing the marriage age for women to 21 amid protests from the opposition parties in the house. As the opposition parties are condemning the bill and alleging that the bill was brought for political gains, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took an indirect dig at the opposition parties.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was in Uttar Pradesh to launch a scheme, addressed a gathering in Prayagraj and took potshots at the opposition parties without taking any names.
Saying that the minimum marriage age of women was increased to help women in studying and prosper, Narendra Modi said that some are getting pained with this. He asked why people are having issues when a decision was taken for the betterment of the daughters of the country.
Adding further, the Prime Minister said that the government is aiming for the empowerment of the daughters of the country without any rest. On the same lines, the marriage age was increased and people have problems even with this, he said.
Highlighting how the Union Government is working on the empowerment of women, Narendra Modi mentioned the flagship scheme launched by the Centre ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’. The nutrition of women during pregnancy was also improved, he said.
