The desperation of the TDP is showing. The party appears to be bending backwards if it means courting the slippery BJP. But, the BJP seems to have no interest in the TDP. Recently, there was a call from the Central Government inviting TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu for a meeting on December 5. This was enough to send the section of the media that backs the TDP into a tizzy.
The media began churning out stories claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Chandrababu for a meeting. But, the fact is that it was a government invite for a meeting to seek suggestions on how to use the one-year tenure of G 20 presidentship. Secondly, it was not Narendra Modi that invited Chandrababu Naidu.
Minister Prahlad Joshi called up Chandrababu the other day and invited him to the meeting. He asked Chandrababu Naidu to give his suggestions. It’s not just Chandrababu who has been invited. The leader of every party that has an MP in parliament has been invited to the meeting. Thus, there is nothing exclusive about the invite.
Yet the media favourable to the TDP is going gaga over the invite. They are trying to make it look like the BJP is head over heels in inviting Chandrababu and that there could even be a talk of the alliance between the two parties for the 2024 elections. Remember what this section of the media did when Modi casually greeted Chandrababu Naidu at a meeting in Delhi?
