Legendary actor Mammootty is not slowing down at all even in his seventies. He is last outing ‘Kannur Squad’ which came out on 28th September took Kerala by storm as it is minting a lot of money at the box office. Inspired by the real squad of Kannur, the movie is engaging and compelling despite its runtime that lasts for 160 minutes.
The movie is filled with interesting storytelling that keeps the audience hooked, the crime investigation is equally impressive and it is a right mix of realism and action. The second is reportedly the major attraction of the film and it is a welcome departure from the regular heroism. The positive reviews from the first day made the audience flock to the theatres and the makers opted for a new approach without including the conventional hero introductions, hero elevations, backstories and other unwanted subplots.
Though the movie is not devoid of flaws, it is a star-studded movie that created an impact despite breaking the regular norms of commercial cinema. Mommootty has ASI George Martin at 72 years old is phenomenal and the film is highly rich in terms of technical quality. Roby Varghese Raj made his debut as a director with ‘Kannur Squad’ and it has already crossed 75 crores in collections which is quite huge for Kerala cinema.
