The foremost thing one prominently notices and associates with late Bharat Ratna Abdul Kalam is his uniquely long, gray hair. For decades, Kalam’s hairstyle was a point of numerous discussions and Kalam himself used to like his hairstyle and he also used to groom it preciously. Here’s the legend behind Kalam’s trademark hairstyle.
Kalam’s ancestors in Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu used to grow long hair and even Kalam followed the age old tradition since his teenage. He never tried to move away from the tradition and maintained the same hairstyle till his last breath. In Delhi, Kalam regularly gets his haircut at a salon which is run by people belonging to his ancestor’s roots and the late President pays them not less than Rs.500 each time.
Amjad Habib and his father Habib Ahmed are the two barbers who have been styling Kalam’s hair for several years. There’s no exaggeration that Kalam’s hairstyle too has numerous fans. Kalam’s endearing personality and trademark pleasant smile perfectly complement his hairstyle, giving him a distinct persona.
