Not long ago, YSR Congress party MLA from Venkatagiri in Nellore district Anam Ramnarayana Reddy made a sensational allegation that the police officers in the district have become helpless as mafia leaders have been ruling the roost.
He pointed out that the Superintendents of Police in the district are being frequently transferred as they are opposing the highhanded activities of some leaders. He was apparently referring to some YSRC MLAs who are reigning supreme in the district.
Though no action was taken against Anam, the YSRC leaders in the district continue to be entering into confrontation with the SPs, who are behaving strictly with them.
Last week, the Nellore police registered a case against YSR Congress party MLA from Kovuru and former minister Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy for violating the lockdown restrictions in his constituency imposed to prevent spread of Coronavirus disease.
Nallapureddy allegedly put up a big show in the name of distribution of essential commodities to 6,500 people at a school in Buchireddypalem village in Kovuru constituency without following norms.
The police brought it to the notice of district superintendent of police Bhaskar Bhushan who got angry and asked the local police to book a case against the MLA and seven of his followers.
On Tuesday, it was the turn of Sarvepalli MLA Kakani Goverdhan Reddy, who fumed at the SP for enforcing restrictions on the Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations.
He alleged that the SP and other police officers had created hurdles for him and his followers in the name of lockdown restrictions.
“The SP is behaving like a dictator and against the constitution. I am not scared. Even when I was in the opposition, I was not afraid of the SPs and collectors. He should mend his ways,” Goverdhan Reddy said.
In Kovvur again, the YSRC leaders led by S Srinivas Reddy threw a virtual challenge to the SP by distributing biryani packets to every household in Rebala, which was declared as Red Zone. Groups of YSRC activists distributed masks to the people, caring a damn for lockdown and social distancing.
It remains to be seen what action the SP would take against the YSRC leaders.
