No Bhadradri Festival This Time?

The famed Bhadradri Sri Rama Kalyanam ( the celestial marriage of Lord Rama and Sita) could be put off this year thanks to the Corona scare. Post YSRCP government’s decision to put off Sri Rama Kalyanam at Ontimitta in Kadapa, the Telangana Government too is mulling the cancellation of the public function. The Sri Rama Kalyanam on Ramanavami day attracts over a lakh devotees from across the two states.
Providing over one lakh masks, sanitisers and arranging for thousands of thermal sensors is an arduous task, feel the officials. They are arguing that a nominal kalyanam by the temple priests could be organised and the pilgrims should not be allowed this time. This could go a long way in preventing the spread of Corona, they argue. The KCR government too is said to be supporting the idea.

Another major worry is that one girl from Khammam, who has just returned from Italy, was identified as infected with Corona. In view of this, the authorities do not want to do anything that could help spread the virus.
