The Chief Secretary of Telangana Somesh Kumar addressed the media on Wednesday over the Covid-19 situations in the state and the possibility of imposing a lockdown in Telangana.
Addressing the reports, the CS said, lockdown will not be imposed in the state stating that the fresh Coronavirus infections have started coming down. There is no need for going for a lockdown, he said.
“Imposing the lockdown would not help us in bringing the situation under control. The government will decide on whether to impose a week-end lockdown or extend night curfew after May 8 soon,” Somesh Kumar said.
“Compared to several states, the Covid-19 situation in Telangana was better and under control. Over the past 10 days, the Covid-19 infections have been following a downtrend. During the second wave too, Telangana hasn’t faced much issues,” he maintained.
Drawing comparisons between the first wave and second wave in the state, Somesh Kumar said, the infrastructure was ramped up and the bed facility was also increased in private hospitals and state-run hospitals.
Telangana has enough testing kits and medicines. We have done pretty well in terms of oxygen supply too, he said.
He went on to say that, despite the situation being under control, the public is panicking with false news of the Covid-19 situation spread on social media and he urged everyone to not believe such news.
Talking about the extra measures taken by the government, the CS said, a dedicated call center that provides the required information related to Covid-19 in the GHMC region is working actively and more such call centers will be brought in the state.
