Kavuri Samba Siva Rao is a name that needs no introduction to the people of AP. This industrialist/politician was at the forefront of the Samaikhyandhra agitation initially but deserted the people after he was made Union Minister by Sonia Gandhi.
In short, he is a person who put his personal interests above that of the Andhras. After bifurcation, knowing that there was no further scope for Congress in AP, he tried to join the TDP but his entry was vehemently opposed. Thereafter he joined the BJP.
Recently, officers from prominent banks staged a silent protest in front of ‘Progressive Constructions’, the office of Kavuri Samba Siva Rao. Why? Because his company owes the banks Rs 1000 crores on which he has defaulted. Why do political parties admit such people to their ranks and make them Ministers and MP’s? What kind of message is it sending out to society? The people of AP are already furious with the BJP and the TDP over the ‘special status’ issue.
The BJP by admitting individuals like Kavuri stands in danger of being further alienated from their goodwill. For a party looking to make inroads in the Deccan and contesting the 2019 elections on its own, people like Kavuri are a huge liability.
