Prakash Raj’s Recent Bold Tweets Ignite Political Firestorm!

0

Actor Prakash Raj’s streak of tweets continues as he once again seems to address Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. In his latest tweet, he wrote, “A new devotee has many panganamas… isn’t it? Enough.. Look at the things to be done for the people..

What has happened has happened. Just asking.” This comment appears to be a critique of Pawan Kalyan’s focus on religious issues instead of pressing matters affecting the public. The ongoing exchange between the two has drawn significant attention on social media.

The tension between Prakash Raj and Pawan Kalyan began after the controversy surrounding the Tirupati laddu issue. Prakash Raj urged Pawan Kalyan, who is also a prominent actor, to investigate the allegations of adulteration in the sacred prasadam instead of escalating the matter nationally. Pawan Kalyan responded by emphasizing his respect for Prakash Raj but also advised him to be cautious when discussing sensitive topics like Sanatana Dharma. This back-and-forth has fueled ongoing discussions about their differing ideologies.

Since then, Prakash Raj has been posting cryptic tweets aimed at Pawan Kalyan, questioning the motives behind political actions and suggesting that genuine solutions require meaningful dialogue rather than emotional appeals.

His recent tweet reflects this sentiment, as he challenges whether political gains are more important than resolving issues through thoughtful discussion and administrative measures.

As their exchanges continue, both actors maintain their positions while fans and observers watch closely. The situation highlights not only their personal rivalry but also broader discussions about politics, religion, and public responsibility in India.

With both figures being influential in their respective fields, their ongoing dialogue is likely to resonate with many and could have implications for their future endeavors in politics and cinema.

NTR’s Devara Sets a High Benchmark for Ram Charan’s Game Changer

0

Following the phenomenal success of RRR, the highly anticipated next projects of its lead actors, NTR and Ram Charan, have been closely watched by fans and critics alike. NTR’s recent release, Devara, has set a new benchmark by grossing approximately ₹300 crore in its opening weekend, placing immense pressure on Ram Charan’s upcoming film, Game Changer.

Dil Raju, the film’s producer, recently confirmed that Game Changer is slated for a December release. The film, directed by Shankar, is expected to be a lavish production with a large budget, aiming to attract a wide audience. However, Ram Charan faces challenges as he collaborates with a director, Shankar, whose recent film Bharateeyudu 2 underperformed. Additionally, the composer, Thaman, has been tasked with creating a compelling audio album, given his mixed track record in recent times.

Fans have already begun comparing the box office prospects of Devara and Game Changer, highlighting the intense anticipation surrounding Ram Charan’s performance. The Mega Hero’s ability to draw audiences post-RRR will be put to the test, as he aims to escape the so-called “Rajamouli Curse” that has plagued several actors who have achieved significant success under the director’s guidance.

If Game Changer can match or surpass the opening weekend collections of Devara, it would not only solidify Ram Charan’s position as a leading actor but also demonstrate his ability to attract audiences independently. Previously, Charan faced challenges following the success of Magadheera, with a series of box office setbacks. With the release date approaching in two months, fans are eagerly anticipating what could be a fierce box office battle between the two highly anticipated films.

IIT Delhi researchers develop ML tool to map extent of landslides

0

New Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS) Researchers from the IIT Delhi on Monday announced the development of a ground-breaking cloud computing and machine learning-based tool that can help map a landslide’s extent using satellite data.

This easy-to-use and publicly-available tool ML-CASCADE requires an approximate date and location of a landslide event.

In case of a complex cluster of landslides, the tool can accurately map it within five minutes. And for a simple landslide, it can map within two minutes — critical for post-disaster damage assessment.

The underlying model, published in the prestigious Landslides journal, is trained on a large amount of satellite, terrain, vegetation, and soil data.

“Machine learning on geospatial data offers an unprecedented opportunity to overcome the drawbacks of index-based methods and integrate multiple diverse datasets to map landslides with high accuracy,” said Prof. Manabendra Saharia, Civil Engineering Department, IIT Delhi.

Saharia explained that landslides have traditionally been mapped by manually digitising over satellite imagery, which is costly, inaccurate, and time-consuming. However, field surveys and geological data collection cannot be done in large and remote areas.

ML-CASCADE was developed using 19 features with Sentinel-2 bands (pre- and post-landslide), and slope. It also included data from the NASA Digital Elevation Model, Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and differential Bare Soil Index – to detect fresh landslide development.

The tool is a dynamic machine-learning model that does not depend on pre-trained models. Instead, it builds a custom model based on user-provided inputs and satellite imagery. It adapts to local terrains and specific environmental factors. Further, the tool’s user interface has been designed in consultation with both technical and non-technical users to provide a simple and practical tool to disaster managers. It can be easily downloaded in multiple image formats, and be disseminated or used for further processing in GIS. It has Google Earth Engine as a backend, and thus requires no downloading of data.

The outputs take only minutes to generate, which would take hours on a local computer. The study extensively validated the tool over thousands of landslides, with two major events in the Himalayas (Kotrupi landslide, 2017) and Western Ghats (Kodagu landslide, 2018).

Using the tool, the IIT Delhi researchers aim to develop a national historical landslide inventory with spatial extents, which will be invaluable in developing landslide early warning systems. The ML tool can also be applied in mapping flood inundation, deforestation, sand mining, and other environmental challenges, the researchers said.

How targeted therapies are boosting outcomes for bone marrow cancer

0

New Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS) Patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) — a type of cancer of the bone marrow — are seeing better outcomes with targeted therapies, said experts on Monday.

CML is a slow-growing cancer that affects the bone marrow and blood.

The US National Institute of Health (US) estimates that 1.2 to 1.5 million people worldwide are living with CML. The cancer has seen a notable rise in India, in recent years, with a typical diagnosis occurring in individuals aged 30-40 years.

According to data from Indian cancer registries, CML is the most common type of leukaemia diagnosed in the country. A previous study reported the annual incidence of CML in India to be 0.8 to 2.2 per 100,000 population.

Drugs known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) that target BCR-ABL protein are the standard treatment for CML.

Dr. Tulika Seth, Professor of Haematology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), told IANS that the discovery of TKIs has revolutionised CML care.

“In recent years, targeted treatments like TKIs have provided relief for patients, especially when resistance to first-line therapies develops. However, maintaining adherence to treatment and regular follow-ups are essential in managing disease progression effectively,” Seth said.

Another is Asciminib, a medicine that specifically targets the ABL myristoyl pocket (STAMP).

These targeted medicines act directly on the BCR-ABL protein, a genetic mutation that drives the growth of cancer cells in CML.

Further, even with these therapies, patients must continue to monitor BCR-ABL levels, Dr. Arijit Nag, Consultant of Clinical Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant in Tata Medical Center, told IANS.

“In my practice, I have seen targeted therapies have revolutionised in the years and helped the management of CML, this does not mean that CML has ceased to be a chronic illness. Follow-up visits are recommended every three months for patients after commencing treatment,” Nag said.

If CML progresses to advanced stages, resistance can develop due to mutations in the BCR-ABL gene.

“This often requires switching to different TKIs or second-line therapies. Additionally, treatment intolerance — such as fatigue or gastrointestinal issues — can impact a patient’s ability to continue therapy,” she noted.

Striking the right balance between managing resistance and minimising intolerance requires individualised treatment plans and close monitoring to ensure the best possible outcomes.

The key is to regularly monitor BCR-ABL levels, especially in advanced stages of CML, as it guides treatment decisions and allows for timely adjustments to therapy, Seth said

According to the European LeukemiaNet (ELN) guidelines, periodic assessments are key to ensuring optimal disease management as the treatment evolves.

It is because BCR-ABL levels will determine whether or not the treatment is working, Nag explained.

Regular testing helps the patient and physician monitor how well the current therapy is working, and change the practice, if required, to best suit the patient’s needs.

The experts also called for building a strong support system of adherence, regular monitoring, and family support. This support is crucial, especially as patients progress to later-line therapies.

Thailand’s manufacturing sector expanded at slower rate in September

0

Bangkok, Oct 1 (IANS) Thailand’s manufacturing sector maintained its upturn in September but expanded at a slower rate due to lower increases in output and new orders, a survey showed on Tuesday.

The Southeast Asian country’s manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) was recorded at 50.4 last month, easing from 52.0 in August, signalling an overall improvement in manufacturing sector performance and marking the slowest growth in four months, according to S&P Global.

A PMI reading above 50 indicates expansion in the manufacturing sector, while a reading below 50 reflects contraction, Xinhua news agency reported.

Despite both experiencing weakened expansion rates, new orders rose for the third-consecutive month and output grew for the fifth straight survey. This resulted in manufacturers being cautious about purchasing volumes, while backlogs of work rose for the fifth month running, S&P Global said in a statement.

Manufacturers continued to expand their workforces at a rapid pace, with employment growth remaining close to the survey-record high set in June, said Trevor Balchin, economics director at S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Meanwhile, price pressures eased as average input prices fell at the fastest rate on record and output charges remained broadly stable, marking the end of a 41-month inflationary period, Balchin said.

Looking ahead, Thai manufacturers remained optimistic about output growth over the next 12 months, citing increased customer enquiries, new sales strategies, market expansion, a stronger economy and promotions, the survey showed.

10 years of SBM: ‘Swachhata didis’ bring a turnaround in people’s lives in Chhattisgarh

0

Raipur, Oct 1 (IANS) As the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) completes its 10th anniversary on October 2, the transformation in people’s lives in Chhattisgarh steered by the ‘Swachhata Didis’, is stealing the spotlight among many other success stories of the ‘Clean India Mission’.On October 2, 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the cleanliness drive, envisioning a nationwide movement to create a clean and hygienic India.

To mark the decade of ground-breaking initiative, a medical camp was organised in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, which saw the participation of students and locals including the Swachhata Didis. All of them shared happiness over the drastic changes in their lives, brought by this campaign.

The event showcased the efforts of Swachhata Didis, women responsible for maintaining community cleanliness and spreading awareness about sanitation.Krishna Aggarwal, one of the Swachhata Didis, spoke to IANS about people’s changing preferences for a cleaner society.”Now, people use dustbins, separating their waste into dry and wet categories. PM Modi, by personally participating in the campaign, inspired the public to keep their surroundings clean,” she said.

Urvashi Vaishnav, another Swachhta Didi, emphasised the shift in behaviour towards cleanliness and sanitation, particularly the end of open defecation.”Earlier, the lack of toilets forced people, especially women, to relieve themselves on the streets. Now, with toilets available in homes, this issue has been resolved, making our roads and villages cleaner,” she added.

Another Swachchta Didi Uttara Todar told IANS, “Every household is now more serious about waste management, and PM Modi has been a driving force in taking this campaign to new heights,” she stated.Doctors participating in the medical camp also lauded the mission’s success in reducing the spread of communicable diseases.

Dr Rupali Raut said that a significant drop was recorded in infections like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya due to improved hygiene and government initiatives like distributing mosquito repellents.”The mobile medical units launched by the Chhattisgarh government have also been providing vital in-home services,” she said.Dr Akanksha Singh echoed these sentiments, adding that diseases like diarrhoea and skin infections have declined considerably since the Swachh Bharat Mission’s launch.

“There has been a marked reduction in hygiene-related illnesses,” she noted.Students have also spotlighted the positive impact of the campaign on their lives.Dhanashree Shahu said, “Students are falling sick less frequently, which means more of us attend school regularly.”Bharatiya Sona said, “Earlier, dirty toilets and menstrual taboos made it difficult for girls to attend school. Now, with clean toilets and access to sanitary pads, more girls are attending school, and overall hygiene has improved.”

Pinky Geakwad said, “Earlier, there was a lot of dirt and stagnant water, which led to mosquito breeding and more illnesses. Now, this has stopped to a large extent, and diseases are spreading less.”Notably, the Swachh Bharat Mission has had a lasting impact on communities, not just in Chhattisgarh but across the country, improving the indexes of public health, hygiene and sanitation in the last decade.
