Bad News for Unemployed Youth in AP, Government Gives Shock!

0

Chandrababu Naidu’s government in Andhra Pradesh still needs to fulfil the poll promise of offering employment opportunities to the youth. However, it has created ways through which retirees are given a chance to be reappointed and contracted for outsourcing. In their respective election manifestos, TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan announced that they would give employment opportunities to 20 lakh youths. They also promised unemployed youths that they would be paid ₹3,000 per month until they found a job.

Unfortunately, since coming to power, the government has not addressed such commitments. On the contrary, it has launched rules to offer contracts to its retirees on a contractual and outsourcing basis, thus eliminating all fresh candidates. What the government has done has brought a lot of frown on the faces of unemployed youths who wish to secure themselves with government jobs.

A senior official even condemned it, saying, “The government is stealing new candidates’ opportunities by reappointing retired employees.” This move will only worsen unemployment. The government’s order has covered the deputy secretary, deputy director, and lower-cadre positions. On re-appointment, a screening committee will comprise the principal secretary of the finance department.

Various allowances and salaries paid to retired employees shall be reimbursed in accordance with the instructions and regulations of the finance department for the fiscal year 2018.As a result, unemployed youths answered the minister’s questions with astonishment and asked if they would ever have the opportunity to work in government jobs.

NASA-SpaceX to launch Crew 9 mission to bring back Sunita Williams

0

New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS) NASA-SpaceX is set to launch the Crew-9 — an astronaut and a cosmonaut — to the International Space Station (ISS), in a mission that aims to bring back stranded Indian-Origin Sunita Williams back to Earth in February next year.

According to NASA, the liftoff is targeted for 1:17 p.m. EDT (10:47 pm IST) on Saturday from Space Launch Complex-40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

“This is the first human spaceflight mission to launch from that pad,” the US space agency said.

The Crew-9 was initially expected to launch on Thursday but was postponed due to poor weather conditions due to hurricane Helene, currently impacting the Gulf Coast of Florida.

The flight will carry NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov to the orbiting laboratory for about five-month science mission. They will return to Earth in February along with Williams and Butch Willmore.

Williams and Willmore travelled to the ISS on an eight-day sojourn on the faulty Boeing’s Starliner. While the Starliner was declared unfit for human travel by NASA, and it returned safely to Earth, the astronaut duo are stuck in space.

Meanwhile, NASA’s Flight Readiness Review confirmed that all systems are “go” for the launch, ensuring that the Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft are ready for this critical mission.

For the first time since May 2020 test flight, SpaceX is launching two astronauts to the ISS on a Dragon spacecraft.

In a bid to make room for Williams and Willmore in the orbiting lab, NASA had pulled out two other Crew-9 members — commander Zena Cardman and three-time shuttle flier Stephanie Wilson.

The Crew-9 mission will fly with two empty with extra cargo and supplies, including a new Dragon spacesuit for Wilmore (one for Williams is already aboard the ISS).

The targeted docking time is approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday (3.30 am Monday), NASA said.

Jani Master’s Wife Ayesha Alias Sumalatha: My Husband Jani Master was Trapped

0

In a surprising twist in the case involving choreographer Jani Master, his wife Sumalatha alias Ayesha has filed a counter-complaint with the Film Chamber of Commerce against the woman who had earlier lodged a complaint against her husband. Sumalatha alleged that the woman had entrapped her husband under the guise of love to exploit him, causing immense emotional distress over the past five years, leading to her own attempt at suicide.

In her complaint, Sumalatha stated, “The woman pressured my husband Jani Master to marry her, saying she didn’t care about her parents and insisted that he leave me. She would control his schedule, allowing him to come home for only 2-3 hours. I personally confronted her and said that if she truly cared for Jani, I would leave his life. She pretended to care, calling him her ‘brother’ and addressing me as ‘sister-in-law,’ but it was all a lie. She has had illicit relationships with several men, and when Johnny distanced himself from her, she falsely accused him of sexual assault out of revenge.”

Sumalatha went on to say that the woman specifically targets wealthy and influential men, and her mother is also involved in these manipulations. She pleaded with the authorities to take action against the false allegations and stated, “If anything happens to me or my children, the responsibility lies with this woman and her mother. I request the committee to ensure justice for me and my children.”

The unfolding drama has sparked significant discussion, as the case continues to gain public and media attention, raising questions about the motivations behind the accusations.

Sweden joins ISRO’s Venus Orbiter Mission

0

New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS) Sweden has officially joined ISRO’s Venus Orbiter Mission (VOM), approved last week by the Union Cabinet.

The Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) will reportedly provide ISRO with the Venusian Neutrals Analyser instrument (VNA) — a lightweight, low-power but highly capable energetic neutral atom (ENA) analyser.

The VNA will study the interaction between charged particles from the Sun and Venus’ atmosphere and exosphere.

The VOM mission, expected to launch in March 2028, will help unravel “Venusian atmosphere, geology and generate large amounts of science data probing into its thick atmosphere,” according to a Cabinet communique.

The Cabinet has also “approved a fund of Rs. 1,236 Crore for the VOM, of which Rs 824 Crore will be spent on the spacecraft”.

The VNA will be integrated into the plasma package, Venus Ionospheric and Solar Wind Particle AnalySer (VISWAS), provided by the Space Physics Laboratory (SPL) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

The IRF was also the Principal Investigator of the plasma package on the European Space Agency’s Venus Express mission from 2004-2014. The VOM mission will be Sweden’s second Venus exploration.

Sweden has been India’s space partner since 1986. It also partnered with ISRO on Chandrayaan missions 1, 2 and 3. The country also aims to partner with Chandrayaan 4 and Ganganyaan – – India’s human spaceflight mission.

Venus is the closest planet to Earth and is believed to have formed in conditions similar to Earth.

The VOM probe offers a unique opportunity to understand how planetary environments can evolve very differently, and to find the causes for the transformation of Venus — believed to be once habitable and quite similar to Earth.

The VOM mission will be accomplished by the Department of Space and is envisaged to orbit a scientific spacecraft in the orbit of planet Venus.

The mission would also enable India for future planetary missions with larger payloads, and optimal orbit insertion approaches.

UN releases US$10 million emergency humanitarian funds for Lebanon aid

0

United Nations, Sep 28 (IANS) The acting UN relief chief allocated $10 million in emergency funding for the humanitarian situation in Lebanon, which the local UN coordinator described as catastrophic.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Friday said that the Israeli air strikes continued to affect civilians and civilian infrastructure on the fifth consecutive day of the large-scale military escalation.

The world body’s humanitarian coordinator in Lebanon, Imran Riza, called the destruction nothing short of catastrophic, with the surge in violence extending to previously unaffected areas, causing widespread destruction, Xinhua news agency reported.

“We are witnessing the deadliest period in Lebanon in a generation, and many express their fear that this is just the beginning,” Riza said.

He said that in less than a week, at least 700 lives have been lost, thousands have been injured, and nearly 120,000 people have been displaced, with the numbers continuing to rise. Since the beginning of the conflict on October 7, 2023, more than 1,500 civilians have been killed, and over 200,000 people have been forced to flee their homes.

“The United Nations and partners are closely coordinating with the Lebanese Government to support the response efforts,” OCHA said. “We are delivering food, mattresses, hygiene kits, and emergency medical supplies.”

Riza said that critical funding gaps persist in the areas of shelter repair, food, fuel and coordination, among others. Humanitarian organisations are assessing the amount of funding required to address the increasing number of displaced people and the rising humanitarian needs.

UN Acting Emergency Relief Coordinator Joyce Msuya allocated $10 million from the world body’s Central Emergency Response Fund.

The office said the funds are in addition to the $10 million released from the Lebanon Humanitarian fund earlier in the week.

In Gaza, OCHA warned that displaced people live in abysmal conditions, which could further deteriorate in the upcoming cold and rainy winter weather.

The United Nations and humanitarian partners recently conducted assessments — September 19 and 22 — in two collective shelters in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis.

“At both sites, displaced communities live in overcrowded shelters and lack cleaning supplies, hygiene kits, sanitary pads and diapers, as well as clothes and infant formula for babies,” OCHA said.

The office said the first site was a school turned into a shelter by the UN relief agency known as UNRWA in the Al Bureij refugee camp in Deir al Balah. It was hosting more than 3,500 Gazans.

“Our teams found people were crammed into classrooms and worn-out tents, with an average of 80 to 100 people per classroom and 40 people per tent,” OCHA said. “Access to clean water and health care is extremely limited. Most residents are eating only one meal per day, with some people going the entire day without eating.”

The office said the second site was a makeshift camp in Abasan in eastern Khan Younis, hosting 2,500 people, including nearly 1,000 school-aged children.

“The site is in a flood-prone area, adjacent to a site where garbage is being dumped,” OCHA said. “There are no medical facilities, and there is no food support at this site, except for occasional hot meals provided by a charity organisation.”

The office said humanitarian aid movements in Gaza face significant access constraints.

“Nearly 90 per cent of coordinated humanitarian movements between northern and southern Gaza so far in September have been either denied or impeded,” OCHA said.

In the West Bank, the office said the number of internal movement obstacles deployed by Israeli forces increased by more than 20 per cent since June 2023.

Since the October 7 attacks on Israel, OCHA said Israeli authorities in the West Bank also imposed movement restrictions, marked by the deployment or maintenance of hundreds of movement obstacles and a general closure that affects Palestinian permit-holders and bars them from accessing Jerusalem and Israel.

“The cumulative impact of movement obstacles has been devastating, further entrenching the fragmentation of the West Bank, disrupting access to livelihoods and services for thousands of Palestinians and aggravating the already difficult living conditions there,” the office said.

OCHA said that health facilities in the West Bank also suffered in the conflict.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that from October 7 to July 30, there were 527 attacks on health care in the region, including obstruction of access, use of force, detention and militarised searches.

WHO said the attacks affected 54 health facilities, including 20 mobile clinics and 365 ambulances.

“These incidents not only hinder access to health care but also jeopardise the safety of medical personnel and patients,” OCHA said.

Norway tightens rules on collective protection for Ukrainian refugees

0

Oslo, Sep 28 (IANS) Norway will grant collective protection to fewer Ukrainians arriving from six areas deemed safe by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration, the government said.

If no individual need for protection exists, applications from new asylum seekers from these areas will be rejected, it said.

For the past two and a half years, most Ukrainians fleeing to Norway have been given temporary protection without individual assessment, but now applications from safe regions of Ukraine will be evaluated under regular asylum regulations, Xinhua news agency reported.

“In the future, asylum seekers from Ukraine will therefore be treated on a more equal footing to other asylum seekers. The collective protection scheme will now be directed more precisely at those in need of protection,” said Emilie Enger Mehl, minister of justice and public security.

Norway, which has taken in 85,000 Ukrainians in the past two and a half years, the most in Nordic countries, has seen a reduction in arrivals following earlier cuts to benefits and accommodation. However, recent months have witnessed an uptick in new arrivals.

“Norwegian municipalities are starting to reach capacity. Housing is in short supply and there is pressure on welfare services. We must maintain control over immigration to Norway,” said Tonje Brenna, minister of labour and social inclusion.

Blinken redoubles calls for pressing North Korea, China, Iran to stop aid for Russia’s war in Ukraine

0

Washington, Sep 28 (IANS) US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated calls for joint efforts to press North Korea, China and Iran to stop providing support for Russia’s war in Ukraine, stressing the need to bring a “just and lasting” peace in the war-torn country.

Blinken made the remarks during a press conference, touching on various issues, including heightened tensions between Israel and the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and the war between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza. He was in New York to attend the high-level week of the UN General Assembly, Yonhap news agency reported.

“At the Security Council on Tuesday, the overwhelming majority of countries condemned Russia’s brutal war of conquest and called for a just and lasting peace based on the UN Charter,” the Secretary told reporters.

“Crucial to that is pressing Iran, North Korea and China, a permanent member of the council, to stop providing weapons, artillery, machinery and other support that Putin is using to devastate Ukrainian homes, energy grids and ports,” he added.

Blinken pointed out that international support for Ukraine is not just rhetorical, but “tangible.”

This week, dozens of countries came together to pledge to help Ukraine rebuild its war-ravaged country, he noted, while the Group of Seven countries and others made additional commitments to strengthen Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

As a diplomatic outcome at the Assembly, Blinken mentioned his trilateral engagement with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa on Monday — a meeting centring on joint efforts to “institutionalised” a three-way cooperation.

“Along with my counterparts from Japan and South Korea, we took measures to institutionalise our trilateral cooperation, building on the historic Camp David summit and reaffirming our shared commitment to creating a trilateral secretariat to advance this work,” he said.

He was referring to the first standalone trilateral summit at Camp David in Maryland in August last year. It produced a series of landmark agreements, including the “Commitment to Consult” with each other in the event of a shared threat.

At the trilateral gathering, the three sides underscored their joint efforts to establish a secretariat, to be finalised when their leaders meet later this year, according to officials.

On Friday, Blinken had what he called a “candid” and “substantive” meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

The two sides discussed efforts to improve communication between their countries’ militaries and risks associated with artificial intelligence as well as issues related to the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea.

The Rising Star of Tollywood: Shine Tom Chacko

The trend of casting Malayalam actors in Tollywood, particularly in villainous roles, has been gaining momentum in recent years. This strategic move has proven to be a boon for the Telugu film industry, as these actors bring a unique blend of talent and versatility. One such actor who has made a significant impact is Shine Tom Chacko.

Chacko’s debut in Tollywood with “Dasara” was a resounding success, contributing to the film’s impressive box office collection. His subsequent appearance in “Devara” part 1, though brief, hinted at a more prominent role in the sequel. With the film’s cliffhanger ending and unanswered questions about the protagonist’s survival, Devara 2 presents an ideal opportunity for Chacko to showcase his acting prowess.

While Chacko’s current role in Devara is relatively minor, his talent and potential for growth are undeniable. His ability to select unique and engaging roles has made him a sought-after actor in the industry. However, it is imperative that directors utilize his talents effectively, ensuring that he is not relegated to secondary roles.

The inclusion of Malayalam actors like Chacko in Tollywood is a testament to the industry’s growing appreciation for method acting. These actors bring a fresh perspective and a commitment to intense performances that can elevate the overall cinematic experience. As Tollywood continues to embrace talent from different regions, it is crucial that directors fully harness their potential to create compelling and memorable narratives.
