Senior CPM leader Pinarayi Vijayan was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Kerala for a second time on Thursday. He was sworn in by Governor Arif Khan at Thiruvananthapuram’s Central Stadium in a brief ceremony conducted under COVID-19 protocols.
“Took the oaths of office and secrecy, as the Chief Minister of Kerala. Together, let us realise a people’s alternative, and build a Nava Keralam!” Mr Vijayan tweeted after administering the oath.
Interestingly, the new state cabinet headed by Pinarayi Vijayan has been replaced by all sitting ministers this time around.
The CM will head an all-new 20-member cabinet. Of which 12 are from the CPM and four from the CPI. The new administration has 3 women – Dr R Bindu, Veena George and Chinchu Rani – one more than the previous term and a record number for any Kerala government. As per reports, 75% of the new cabinet are first-time ministers and 10 are first-time MLAs.
