Several hundreds of Kashmiri supporters have gathered to protest outside Indian High Commission in London, at the time when United Nations Security Council (UNSC) was doing a closed door informal meeting to talk about Kashmir on Friday. The protesters gave slogans to free Kashmir by displaying banners and holding Pakistani flags.
Also, they (protestors) lodged a complaint saying that government of India locked down Kashmir, detained several people and not allowing any information to go out. Agitators have appealed that UN should pressurise India to withdraw Union Territory status to Jammu & Kashmir.
One of them who’s leading the protest said that she cannot speak to her parents in Kashmir in last 12 days. She started that ‘India has not just detained Kashmir, but also imposed curfew in the region’. The protestor further alleged that “I don’t know the status of my parents and I don’t understand whether they are able to get food & medicine. It’s disheartening and has angered a lot more people.”
Ever since Narendra Modi’s government has scrapped provisions of Article 370 which abrogated special status to Jammu & Kashmir, the protests against India have become severe. UN has called for this informal meeting after China made an appeal in this regard.
